What is Light-Gauge Steel System?

The Light-Gauge Steel Framing bearing system is a system that is created by joining the bearing walls, flooring and roof panels, which are made up of steel profiles formed cold, according to the required anchorage rules. The initial applications of Light-Gauge Steel Framing bearing systems were provided in Germany in late 1950’s and by 1980’s they got their current shape. In 1980’s, the light steel houses replaced the wooden houses used extensively up to that date in USA. The increase of the prices of the wood prices and the superiority of the light steel materials in terms of transportation led the market to turn to steel houses.

With this 100% recyclable system, 100.000 houses were built in USA in 2002 as single and double-floor houses. The light steel building sector is developing in Australia and Canada as well as USA. In Europe, on the other hand, it is employed in full for the regions with housing deficit. The sector is at its peak in USA.

The system profiles consisting of the bearing walls and flooring panels are manufactured from hot-rolled galvanized steel sheets manufactured with hot-dip galvanization technology, which are then cold-formed. The wall thicknesses may change 0,50 mm and 2,50 mm depending on the calculations. The wall and floor bearing elements lined with uniform distances are connected to intermediary elements horizontally and perpendicularly. The system is equipped with the cross tension elements and horizontal belts in order to cover the horizontal loads. The load transfer between the panels is ensured via the auxiliary steel anchorage elements. At points that are forced extremely, the steel profiles with full structures can also be integrated into the system.

The steel screws and bolts capable of piercing are used as connection elements in the system. The loads that screws of various lengths and diameters can handle are given in various specifications. Like steel galvanized profiles, these screws are also galvanized. The whole system is interconnected with the OSB panels horizontally and perpendicularly and becomes rigid in the plane. The light-gauge steel building system requires the use of permanent or radial foundation system underneath.

In Proev Light Gauge Steel Construction Systems, the profiles are manufactured in roll-forming machinery at the factory after they are dimensioned in our technical office; then they are transformed into flooring, roof and wall panels in our benches and dispatched to the site. At the site location, on the other hand, the assembly is completed only in three or four days. The errors are minimized in this system. The application of this system ensures a clean site environment.

The Light-Gauge Steel Framing Bearing System was introduced in our country after the earthquake in 1999. Many systems with fast assembly that were not affected by the earthquake excited the interest of many domestic firms. Here it must be noted that the light-gauge steel building can only be a sound building resistant against the external factors and earthquake loads when the light-gauge framing system is manufactured, applied and insulated in the right manner. When light steel profiles are produced with special roll-forming machinery at the factory in a computer-controlled manner, the form and characteristics of the material throughout the cross-section, and in turn, the response, will be the same. The length or twist diameters with a few mm. differences in flanges and lips of the profiles have an impact on the general load bearing capacity of the system. Some small-scale enterprises employ unsafe applications such as twisting the steel sheet materials.

System Characteristics

  • In pre-manufactured steel system, the human errors are minimized. The building is suitable and safe only when the profiles are designed and manufactured from steel sheets complying with the specifications by using computers and according to the relevant technique and they are assembled correctly.

  • As Proev products consist of steels with thin cross-sections, they are lighter than other building types by 10 times. They are less affected by the earthquake as compared to other buildings. This is a light and sound system that can be applied on even very negative ground conditions.

  • The proportion of the load carried by the specific weight of the light steel to beneficial load is very low due to high resistance.

  • our profiles are homogeneous, isotropic and highly ductile. The element characteristics are the same in all profile cross-sections under supervised production conditions.

  • The period of manufacturing is short due to fast and easy assembly.

  • Construction can go on constantly regardless of the weather and climate conditions.

  • No piercing and breaking as assembly holes can be provided during the manufacture stage at the factory.

  • Suitable for multiple productions. The buildings units that can be prepared as packages can easily be preserved.

  • As the system elements are not made up of materials working and changing forms, unlike the other building techniques, no structural change is observed when insulated correctly. Does not create bugs and similar insects.

  • The corrosion resistance ensured through galvanization in light-gauge steel bearing systems ensures the system to be long-lasting.

  • If the system is supported by different steel elements, buildings with more than three-floors can also be constructed.
